Vanessa Cozzone began dancing when she was just 3 years old. She took ballet, jazz, tap, and hiphop classes at the Plainfield Park District until the age of 7. Her journey led her to multiple different studios including Storm Dance Alliance, Vaughan Dance Academy and Revolution Dance Studio, where she took classes while expanding her knowledge of dance and gaining the love of the art. There, her focus was jazz and hip hop, and through the years she has worked with choreographers such as Leandra Groth, Andrew Hull, Charles Lawerence, Sergio Lopez, Alvin Ramirez, and many more. Vanessa was on the Plainfiel d North poms team all of her 4 years of high school. She made the varsity team in 2012; the same year they placed 1st at the TDI State Championship with the help of Coach Amber Stambaugh. During Vanessa's junior and senior year of high school (2013 - 2015) s he was a captain of the Plainfield North varsity poms team. She had the opportunity to lead and choreograph for her team and took great pride in being a Tigerette! Through poms, she studied hiphop, jazz, lyrical, and Pom. After graduation, Vanessa began wo rking for York High School's varsity dance team, where she taught camps and co - choreographed their state dances. In 2016, York placed 11th at the IHSA State Dance Championship and in 2017 they placed 6th with the help of Coach Kristen Baron. Vanessa began attending Illinois State University in the Fall of 2015, where she auditioned for Urban Movement, an ISU - affiliated hiphop company. Under the direction of Darnell Payne and Elizabeth Hawk, she has been training in strictly hiphop and urban dance for the pa st 2 years. In the Fall of 2016, Vanessa became a captain of Urban Movement, and in Spring of 2017 she became co - director with Elizabeth Hawk. Vanessa and Elizabeth went on to create Amnesty Dance Project in June of 2017, where they focused on the directio n of dance videos and fundamental training within the group of 7 girls. Vanessa's love for hiphop and the company in which she has trained with and directed for is indescribable, and she cannot wait to share her knowledge and passion with her students at I MPRESSIONS!
